Biography

I am living a varied and diverse career and continue to encounter many diverse and interesting characters who enriched my life.

These highlights of my wanderings

  • Bachelor of Science with majors in Physics and Natural Sciences from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania
    • Native of New Jersey
  • First Career – Lieutenant, US Navy:
    • Nuclear Physics instructor at Naval Nuclear Power School
    • Reactor Controls Division Officer on a US Navy submarine
    • Lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Florida (twice), Washington State.
    • Visited Japan, Korea, and Thailand
  • Second Career – Sonar Systems Engineer:
    • Wrote specifications, test procedures, technical presentations, and reports to support the design of US Navy sonar systems.
    • Lived near Syracuse, New York
    • Revisited this career between pastorates to analyze and assess sonar and laser systems while living in Indiana. Wrote technical reports, test procedures, and proposals along with some acoustic and laser engineering.
  • Third Career – Minister of Word and Sacrament
    • Ordained as a Deacon and later as an Elder.
    • Interim Pastor of two congregations in southern Indiana
    • Solo Pastor in northern Indiana
    • Moderator, Synod of Lincoln Trails
    • Solo Pastor in central Florida
  • Fourth Career – Explorer and Writer
    • Retirement has freed my wife and I to travel widely within the continental United States. Previously we traveled at least briefly to each of the fifty States.
    • Sold our home and cars and purchased a travel trailer and pickup truck. This mode of living favors short trips (about one to two hundred miles) between staying at a location for a few days to a few weeks allowing us to better appreciate each place we visit.
    • Writing this blog and fiction.
